The Town Too Tough to Die

Tombstone Arizona, known as “The Town Too Tough to Die,” was the home of Wyatt Earp and his brothers, Virgil and Morgan Earp. The Earp brothers, along with the notorious Doc Holliday, took on the Clantons and the McLaurys in the infamous Gunfight at the OK Corral. Those few seconds, that will forever live in Western history, here in this video.

Tombstone is still alive and well today … indeed, the Town Too Tough to Die. It’s located about an hour from Tucson, Arizona. I go there at least a couple of times a year. It feeds my frontier spirit and provides an escape back to yesteryear when the West was a wild and wooly place.

Movie Review: The Cowboys

John Wayne plays Wil Andersen, an aging rancher who can't find local cowboys to run his cattle drive. His solution: Hire schoolboys, who will be forced to become men fast when they're attacked by a cattle-rustling gang. The was a very controversial film with unexpected twists and turns. I liked it a lot.

My Rating: ****

Wyatt Earp - Reincarnated

I think maybe I'm the reincarnation of Wyatt Earp. That would explain my passion for the frontier days of the old west.

I got my first "cowboy suit" and six gun cap pistol when I was about 5 years old. Believe it or not, I actually remember getting that suit and wearing it with pride.

I've added a few years since then, but I still get a flutter when I pull on my western duds, strap on my Colt 45 Peacemaker, don my cowboy hat and boots, and head for the dusty streets of a town from a day gone by.

My poor wife! I don't think she quite shares my enthusiasm, but she's a good sport. She plays "dress-up" right along with me and would surely command a second look from Wyatt or Doc.

Welcome to Richard Beaty's Old West

I beleve I was supposed to be born about a century before I was. I am a member of the "Baby Boomer" generation. I should have been part of the "Old West Frontier Generation."

I can't get enough of the stories of that time. And when I go to a place like Tombstone, AZ or even Old Tucson Studios, I feel spiritually transformed. I get the feeling that this is home. This is where I was meant to be.

I have no time machine. I can't teleport myself back to the O.K. Corral to walk down the street with Wyatt Earp, his borthers Virgil and Morgan, and the one and only Doc Holliday. I can't experience those days directly, but I can live them virtually. This blog will help me do that by giving me an outlet for my stories, photos, videos and movies about The Old West.
